National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event held the first Tuesday of August. The event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada. The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch/Neighborhood Watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

The city of Anaheim's Transportation Faire and Chili Cook-Off Competition will take place Sept. 21. The theme this year is "Ridesharing Through The Years" and will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Center Street Promenade, in Downtown Anaheim. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Each year, residents and local businesses look forward to the chili cook-off and free concert. Chili tickets are two tastes for $1. Soda and water are $1 each. City employees, downtown employers and the general public are invited to participate in this fun-filled event. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Anaheim Community Foundation/Oak Canyon Nature Center, which provides valuable environmental education programs for our community; the "Books 2 Read 4 Kids in Need" to help support reading and learning programs sponsored by the Anaheim Public Library; the American Lung Association/SCAMP Camp, benefiting asthmatic children; and the Anaheim Family Justice Center Foundation, which helps families or people who have escaped domestic violence. The Anaheim Police Officers' Honoraries Association is presenting a fundraiser Sept. 23 at Battle of the Dance. Both auction items and sponsorships are welcomed. The Honoraries Association contributes to a survivors and scholarship fund benefiting the families of Anaheim police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The fundraising continues toward creating a permanent memorial to honor our fallen police officers. Celebrate Anaheim's Citrus Era with the Anaheim Historical Society at the newly opened Founders' Park. The event, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 24, is open to the public. The program includes presentations by Jane Newell from the Anaheim Public Library's Heritage Services and designer Kevin Kidney, as well as ice cream, fresh-squeezed lemonade and tours of the historic buildings at Founders' Park. Anaheim Coves, a new 14 acre nature park located in Anaheim along the Santa Ana River between Ball Rd. and Lincoln, will officially open on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The public is invited to attend the 11:30 a.m. dedication ceremony.
Anaheim Coves represents the long-standing relationship linking the City, and the Orange County Water District (OCWD) to the Santa Ana River. The City has added a permeable 1.5 mile multi-use and handicap accessible trail, restrooms, parking, interpretative signage, irrigation, native landscaping including the planting of more than 1,000 trees, and observation areas throughout the park located adjacent to Burris Basin.
